We know how it can be when it comes to picking the first dance song for your wedding day. You search and search, but nothing speaks to you and the anxiety starts to set in. Well, grab a drink and take some notes because we are here to take you through a list of songs that make for perfect first dance songs! The best part? They are songs that you haven’t heard over and over again!
1. Better Together by Jack Johnson An airy and light acoustic folk song that will make you want to grab your partner and start dancing! This song will surely put a smile on both of your faces as well as all of your guests. 2. Falling Like the Stars by James Arthur Looking for a romantic tear jerker? Well, look no further! This song has a heart warming effect that will have everyone in awe while you and your new spouse dance away! It will make you feel as if you are truly dancing with the stars! 3. From the Ground Up by Dan + Shay This song is a country love song that doesn’t get enough credit! With lyrics signifying the start of a new beginning, this is the perfect song to symbolize the new chapter of both of your lives. 4. He popped the question and now it’s time to buckle down and start the wedding planning! You may be asking yourself, where do I even begin? What lists do I need to make? Where in the world am I going to find my dream dress? There are so many questions and things to do when it comes to wedding planning, but do not worry! We have compiled some common questions that almost every bride thinks about and we are here to spill all of the answers! 1. How much should we be spending on our wedding? This question is one that depends on the situation and varies from couple to couple. However, according to Value Penguin, the average cost of a wedding in the United States is approximately $30,000. You can also find a list of average costs based on which state you live in! It may or may not be realistic for your own personal wedding day, but it is a good place to start! 2. What is the one thing we should put higher up on our budget? Hands down, do not cut corners on a photographer/videographer! Let us be the first to tell you that yes, it is a pricier part of the puzzle, but it is also probably one of the most important! After your wedding day is over, the only things that will remain to look back on your special day is your memories and your photos/videos. If you truly want to encapture your wedding day in the best way possible, make sure to put the photographer/videographer on the top of your budget list! 3. Who comes to the rehearsal dinner? Typically, the only people who make an appearance at the rehearsal dinner are the bride and groom and whoever is included in the wedding party. However, some couples may decide to invite some out of town guests if it’s in their budget since they are in town for the wedding. The rehearsal dinner is used as a way to rehearse for the big day and to make sure everyone knows what they are doing and where they are going. 4. Do I need a wedding planner? This is entirely up to you, but we can definitely vouch that having a wedding planner makes things go a lot smoother and saves the bride and groom from a lot of unnecessary stress! The wedding planner will be able to help guide you in the right directions based on your vision for the wedding and save you both time. 5. Are Save the Date cards necessary? We live in a time where everything is pretty much digital now! The latest trend we have been seeing amongst weddings is that a lot of couples are now only sending save the dates, adding their website on the card, which then leads guests to a website where they can find a place to RSVP, find the wedding registries, and can even find a honeymoon fund! Anything and everything you need can all be added to your wedding website!  6. Should we allow plus-ones?
Let’s just put it this way… the more people who are invited to the wedding, the higher the cost. We are seeing a lot of couples opting out of allowing plus-ones and having smaller, more intimate weddings. However, this is another decision that is entirely up to you. If it fits within your budget and you don’t mind having more guests attend, go for it! 7. How should we greet our guests at the reception? You don’t want a long line of people waiting for you two, so instead we suggest greeting your guests while meals are being distributed to everyone. Another way to greet guests all at once is to use a microphone and give a short speech before dinner actually starts. This is a great way to let your guests know how much you appreciate them joining you for your special day and it assures that everyone receives the message! 8. What is considered appropriate for our first kiss at the ceremony? We get it. It’s nerve wracking sharing your first form of PDA together in front of all of your family and friends! The truth is, there is no right or wrong answer for this one. It is entirely up to you and your partner to choose however you would like your first kiss to be! For some people, they wait to see how the moment is and then they just go for it! 9. Is a send off really necessary? Send offs can definitely be a nice way to end the night, but it isn’t necessary! If you plan on partying it up with your family and friends all night or if you aren’t having someone drive you off at the end of the reception, then opting out of having one may be better for you. It can also help save some money when it comes to your photographer because you won’t need them to stay longer. 10. Is it normal to feel scared or nervous about the wedding? Yes, it is completely normal (go ahead, you can breathe now)! You aren’t the first nor the last one to feel that way. There is a lot that goes into this special day and it can definitely cause some nerves to arise, but we are here to let you know that everything will be okay! Make sure to enjoy the moments leading up to your wedding day and don’t sweat the small things. It is a big day and a big step in both of your lives, but you got this! From all of the photos we have seen scrolling through our Instagram, this color is definitely a popular one. Adding touches of greenery mixed with larger flowers is a subtle, yet bold statement and we are loving every bit of it! If coral is your color, mix up your bouquet with lighter flowers and maybe even some pink buds. The contrasting color palette will make for a stunning arrangement! Photo: Rooted Trumpet Photography Mixed Flowers  Mixing various types of flowers is not only fun, but it is a great way to mix up shades from your color palette. Not only do you get an array of beautiful shades, but contrasting textures are created that will give your bouquet a nice pop! This style of bouquet is perfect for those of you who want contrasting color, who can’t decide on one or two types of flowers, and who has various mixed themes for their wedding! Lots and lots of color is definitely eye catching and makes a lasting impression on your guests! Typically roses make for the perfect flower for this type of bouquet, considering there are so many colors to choose from! If this style is for you, talk to your florist about your vision. They will be able to help you pull together colors that not only pop, but that compliment each other! Photo: Elle Reaux Photography Neutral, Yet Bold  Boho, elegant, or even rustic chic; this style melds well with all different types of themes and adds a beautiful touch to your wedding ensemble! The best thing about this style of bouquet? It goes with almost every style dress! Bracelets and necklaces are great, but this is the only accent you’ll need on your wedding day! This has been an up and coming wedding trend and we are glad it’s made its way to the top! We love that even though it’s such a unique touch to a bouquet, it is perfect for any season of the year! Tip- less is more with this one! We have been seeing a lot of brides choosing simplicity when it comes to flowers in their bouquets, such as only having a couple roses here and there. However, they have been mixing this classical look with the cascading greenery, which is simply stunning! This style will add a romantic and timeless feel to any wedding!

Let me be the first to say that those thoughts are completely normal! Every bride, every groom, and even every wedding planner, we have all been there! Good news is that there are precautions that you can do to help those worrisome thoughts from becoming a reality. Don’t worry, we got your back! 1. Roughen Up The Bottom of Your Shoes  New shoes are always a good thing, but it also can be a dangerous thing, especially for those of us who are going to be using them for our special days. The best thing you can do to help prevent accidental slip ups is to roughen up the bottom of your new shoes! You and your partner could possibly wear them to your dance rehearsals, you can wear them to a date night, or you can wear them while you’re running wedding errands! If those don’t sound like options for you, rubbing the bottom with a course material like sandpaper should do the trick! 2. Freeze Your Candles For a Longer Burn Time  Candles are a timeless decoration for your wedding day! They are elegant, add a romantic effect, and always make a great impression on wedding guests! If you plan on burning them for the entirety of your special day, freezing your candles the day before will help them burn at a slower rate and allow them to last longer! Elegance that lasts is a win in our book! Side Note...most wedding venues have rules when it comes to candles. Check with the manager of your venue about their rules, but having glass covers or even fake candles should work! 3. Use Mirrors or Chalkboards for Your Signs  If there’s one thing nobody tells you about planning a wedding, it’s that reusable items are the way to go! This goes for the big items too, like your wedding signs! You already know that you’re going to need signs at your wedding, so why not invest in ones that you can use even after your wedding day has finished? Using erasable boards like chalkboards or even mirrors make a unique touch for wedding day signs and can even be reused in your home, for your sister or best friends’ wedding, or at other events in the future! 4. Freeze the Top Tier of Your Wedding Cake  Are you and your spouse intending to save the top tier of your cake and eat it on your first wedding anniversary? A simple hack that will help keep your cake from getting messy is to set it in the freezer! Have someone you trust place the cake in the freezer for about 30 minutes before you wrap it up and it will keep the icing from sticking to your foil or container. Less mess means less stress! 5. Save Money by Creating a Wedding Website  Directing your guests to your own wedding website will help you and your soon-to-be-spouse save a good chunk of money! Getting cards for the rehearsal dinner, bridal showers, weddings shower, and other fun wedding festivities can start to add up. Recently, Becca Isdale has joined our creative team and we are so happy to have her by our side for our future endeavors. Becca is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio where she received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology. Throughout her journey in college, her love for photography and content creation took off. She took her love for content and creativity and decided to start up her own blogging business a couple months ago. When she isn't blogging, she likes to spend time with her family or spend time outdoors exploring what's around her. Her and her husband are from the Corpus Christi area, but moved up to the San Antonio area about 5 years ago for college. They are recent newlyweds and got married here in the Boerne, Texas area. They have two fur babies and also love going on adventures together.  We are happy to see Becca implement her skills and talents with us here at Hill Country Weddings and Events Magazine! From helping with sales to making our instagram stories pop, we are excited to have her by our side!
